Damian Canny - Executive Chairman

Starting his building career at age six cleaning bricks for his father who was also a builder, Damian Canny was inspired by the trade which led him to a carpentry apprenticeship. At 18 he partnered with Lachy Watson and the pair worked hard fitting out retail stores and constructing houses which led to a large national construction project with Gazman.

Diligence, attention to detail and hard work has earned the Canny business a reputation for quality, especially in the affluent inner east region of Melbourne. This reputation for quality generated an abundance of repeat and referred business leading Canny to its success today.

Greg Davy - Group CEO

An experienced industry executive with 30 years combined commercial and domestic building industry experience across a multitude of industry sectors. Greg owned and operated successful building and development companies, including a commercial and industrial remedial business.

As Group CEO, Greg has direct control of delivering the business plan. He has established a senior management team of proven industry professionals capable of elevating Canny to become the builder of choice for developers and private investors who appreciate the sophisticated value managed outcomes the Group can provide. Greg has been directly responsible for elevating Group turnover year on year to place Canny in a strong financial position for the future.

Lachy Watson - Commercial Director

The level head of Lachy Watson has helped guide Canny since 1999. As Commercial Manager, Lachy is responsible for developing and overseeing all business functions and strategy to ensure efficient growth across every business unit within the Canny Group.

Lachy was involved in the early growth of the company through the successful delivery of multiple commercial projects for major retailers, including Gazman and Sanity Music, as well as ensuing custom residential projects of up to $10 million and multi-residential projects valued at over $50 million.

Josh Williams - Financial Controller

Josh has had direct and indirect experience in property and construction entities for over 14 years. His skill at advising and working directly with both listed and non-listed property groups has placed him in good stead for advising on appropriate structuring, tax and accounting treatment of complex property transactions.

Josh’s expertise in acquisitions, sales, partnering and general management of internal finance and tax components of property funds has allowed him to establish accurate accounting controls throughout the course of his career.

Kieren O’Leary - Development Director

Kieren has 15 years development experience across a broad range of construction industry sectors and possesses expertise across all aspects of end to end project and development management. He has worked on many medium and large scale mixed use development projects including the $1.2 billion ‘Waterfront City’ project at Docklands transforming challenging sites into dynamic contemporary developments.

Kieren is responsible for the acquisition and roll out of new projects for Canny Projects and the successful integration of these opportunities with Canny’s construction and design operations.

Michael Hirst - General Manager Operations

Mike oversees Canny and drives our operations, his focus is to drive commercial outcomes for the business, in particular production best practice outcomes through the maximisation of efficiencies from the pre-construction team through to the construction at site, he delivers customer satisfaction that sees Canny as the builder of choice.

Mike has great experience across the full spectrum of operational and construction management from domestic to medium density and commercial. Previously working as the national operations manager with one of Australia’s major project builders and prior based overseas as the GM of construction for an international hotel group. Mike’s business acumen and client-side focus gives customers both internal and external a confidence that Canny operations are in good hands

Roger Borland - Director of Architecture

Roger Borland, Director of Canny Architecture, has over 13 years’ experience delivering projects of a diverse scale, including substantial multi-residential and high-end residential projects, educational facilities, commercial office buildings and master planning projects.

Roger has worked for award winning multi-disciplined practices such as Hayball and Crone, and more recently with boutique agencies Rob Mills and Martin Friedrich, managing project values from $1m to $50m. He is passionate about design and will further develop Canny’s capability by infusing a high level of fine detail, passive environmental design, and functionality into every project.

Roger will continue to develop and grow Canny’s strong project base by further developing our unique advantage of lateral support across the different disciplines within the Canny Group.

Ivo Barbosa - Group Purchasing and Estimating Manager

After joining Canny as Contract Administrator for the Port Melbourne development early 2015, Ivo has since been promoted to Group Purchasing and Estimating Manager overseeing all Group purchasing requirements whilst developing key relationships with trades and suppliers.
Ivo brings a wealth of experience to Canny having delivered estimating capabilities across key medium density projects throughout Melbourne. Prior to Canny he was instrumental in the establishment of a medium density division of a volume builder. He was in control of determining the procedures, bill of quantities, administration systems and inclusions for their greenfield projects, which ranged from 10 apartments to 80 townhouses. Prior to this, Ivo worked for a successful volume builder as a senior production estimator for their medium density sites and urban communities.

Damian Quigley - Group Business Manager

With over 18 years’ experience in residential construction in Melbourne, Damian has been involved in all facets of the building industry from civil works and site supervision to sales and business development. Prior to commencing at Canny, Damian spent 2 years as Sales and Development Manager for a volume builder and 7 years as Operations/Sales Manager at a multi-award winning volume builder. Both roles required him to work strategically to build market share for these businesses and develop plans to improve operational excellence.

With his strong operations background and solid sales capability, Damian has the skills to build the business toward a new level of productivity.
