Interview with Made Measure

Our homes are derived from superior architecture, premium craftsmanship and luxury products. It’s the combination of these three factors that creates the beautiful homes we are proud to deliver our clients.

One of our most recent projects was a contemporary farm house we renovated in Flinders (view more photos here). This home is simply stunning which is largely attributed to our partnership with a long list of quality suppliers who deliver exceptional materials and fixtures for our homes. In particular, Made Measure, was a stand out, supplying the leather handles for majority of the joinery throughout the home.

We spoke to one half of the creative team at Made Measure, Christina Teresinski, about this beautifully unique product and how it was integrated into the Flinders home.

What makes your handles different?

We make all our handles in Melbourne using premium leather combining old techniques with modern mechanics. Quality is very important for us as well as functionality and of course aesthetics. Our products are simple, usable and honest and all products are designed so they are timeless and functional.

Why leather handles?
We both love working with leather, the way it ages beautifully and gets better with use. We feel it is important to keep craftsmanship alive in Australia particularly leather based design and manufacturing.

What was your inspiration?
We like being part of a product development process. We are really enjoying working with interior/architectural practices – they inspire us with interesting projects & concepts and it’s great to collaborate with them

In your opinion why would someone choose leather handles over metal/wood/no handles on their cabinetry?
Our clients love the tactile nature of leather, and the richness in texture gaining character over time. It’s a natural material too and every hide has unique characteristics. The patina of leather develops with use and age, is something that cannot be replicated with a man-made material.

What types of leather do you use?
We use a variety of leathers, sourced globally from the best tanneries. Quality is very important to us.

What was the brief for the Flinders home?
To create a beautiful statement fireplace surround, which would compliment the surrounding design aesthetic. Materials were a very important factor and the timeless appeal of leather works very well in this amazing space – our brief was to highlight the natural beauty of leather and to create a feature to be enjoyed for many years to come. Leather handles throughout and leather clad doors in the main bedroom, carried the theme through the project.

What did you want to partner with Canny on this project?
We really enjoy working closely with Damian Canny and the Canny Group on this project. Your work is finished to exacting standards, and quality is very important. We share these values in the design and production of our products, and see this as a complimentary to our business.

What do you think of the finished product?
We are very happy with the end result. The Canny team have created an amazing space to the highest level of quality standards. We are proud to have contributed to this beautifully designed and crafted project.
