Parents say it to their kids all the time: it’s what’s inside that matters. While exterior beauty certainly matters in home design (first impressions and all), you’ll probably be spending a lot more time in your home than looking at it from the street. Being the luxury home builders Melbourne loves, we build with luxury in mind inside and out, perpetually seeking leading trends from around the country and the world.
In that vein, we’d love to share some of the inspired interior design ideas from our recent expedition to Denfair Melbourne.
If you’re not familiar already, Denfair is “Australia’s leading destination for contemporary design & art for professional designers, architects, interior stylists and design-lovers.” Held annually in Melbourne and Sydney, it showcases hundreds of local and international brands as well as acting as a platform for inventive design ideas to be shared.
At Denfair 2018, metal dominated the show with its presence in lighting, furniture pieces and other contemporary items.

Innovation Living’s modern take on the traditional sofa bed was a stand out – using clever
design to achieve a light, contemporary feel, and great for utilising in small spaces. A great
deal of apartment furniture was on show, offering inspiration we know clients will adore.

“Natural colours were prominent across brands and displays.”
One overarching element we loved seeing was the use of greens, olives and other natural colours in so many key pieces. That included nature-derived products such as Winspear flooring and Moda Piera furniture. Similar earthy palettes can be found in many of our Melbourne luxury home designs built under our Canny Homes arm.
“A key piece for me was the shelving and storage units – that not only offer a practical solution, but are feature pieces for living rooms and home offices.”
The Canny design team, including interior designer Janine, walked away inspired by and enamoured with many of the latest design and interior trends, including countless furniture pieces, lighting, art and soft furnishings. Of course, we love anything relating to creating a custom style, being a custom home builder in Melbourne. If you’re a design lover, the Sydney Denfair Event will be held mid-August, or visit Canny for more inspired interiors.
