When it comes to choosing your soft furnishings and decorative elements to create luxury home interiors in your own home, it can be quite overwhelming. Our Interior Designers from Canny Architecture share their six essential tips on what to consider when decorating your home.
1. Take your time
There’s no need to rush – consider your home as an evolving work in progress. We all change our mind about the style and trends we want to use in our own home, embrace this process rather than being afraid of it. Do lots of research on Pinterest and by visiting suppliers before making any purchases.
2. Don’t overdo it
Invest in items you really love, allowing them to act as a feature in your home rather than necessarily match every other item. Sometimes just a single new and exciting piece can be enough to lift a space.
3. Consider proportion and scale
Consider the space you want to improve and how you are going to use this space. Don’t try to cram furniture that is too big but instead ensure you select items that proportionally complement the size of the room. As a luxury home builder we carefully consider the room size and shape to perfectly compliment the flow of the home, however overly large furniture can still make these spacious rooms feel small.
4. Create a space that works for you today
With your family’s interests, hobbies and dynamics ever changing, it’s important to remind yourself that your home can change too. Maintain flexibility, from the layout to the look and feel of a space to ensure your design is reflective of what you need today.
5. Put thought into your pieces
Try not to replicate exactly what you have seen on a showroom floor by purchasing the entire setting! Whilst it might look gorgeous in a large warehouse like setting, the look and feel will be completely different when introducing it into your own home.
6. Most importantly – decorate for you, no one else
When family, neighbours and friends walk into your home it should represent you and your family, the people who live and breathe the space. It needs to be practical, comfortable and YOU need to love it. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea – but that’s okay, they don’t live there.
