Tips For Maintaining Your New Home

Congratulations! You’ve moved into your new (or renovated) home. If you’re lucky it is a Canny luxury home design. There is nothing more satisfying than enjoying the result of the months of planning, meetings and organisation to get to the final stage of moving in. However, now comes the real challenge, maintaining the quality and integrity of your home.

To get you on your way,  we’ve devised a simple list of home maintenance tips, to make sure that new home feeling lasts.

1. Create a home maintenance checklist and stick to it

First things first, make a list.

During the handover of the keys, ask your builder for contact numbers of suppliers so that you know who to call when things start needing a spruce up (e.g wooden flooring, curtains, cabinetry).

It is also a good idea to keep a folder of all your appliance warranties and instruction manuals, this will make it easier to keep track of the big ticket items in your house (fridge, fireplace, garage door). If something needs to be fixed, you have all the information you need at hand.

2. Protect entryways

The entrance to your home plays an important role in your guests’ first impressions of your home. Nothing says ‘welcome to our home’ like an inviting mat at your front door. A practical and decorative addition, a doormat will prevent family members and guests from traipsing dirt and stones through the house.

3. Utilise the clever design

Make the most of your new space. Canny built homes are full of useful and practical storage solutions. From the get-go, designate where everything goes and make sure that all family members know. For example, pack your outdoorsy items away in the arrivals/mud room, use the drying racks in the laundry, and keep your food items and kitchen appliances in the butler’s pantry.

4. Set some ground rules for the family

Many hands make light work, so make looking after your home a family affair. Rules such as only eating at the dining table, kids toys stored in a dedicated area, and cleaning up kitchen and bathroom surfaces regularly, will all help to maintain the quality and cleanliness of your home.

5. Get trusted maintenance professionals to assist you

Do your research and get the best people in, to help you maintain the appliances and finishes in your home that you aren’t able to do yourself. Outsourcing maintenance tasks to the experts will save time and money in the long run; think fireplace cleaning, pool maintenance, landscape gardening.

6. If it’s a Canny home, we are here to help you

At Canny, the final step of our custom home building process is Quality Assurance and Follow Up. So let’s keep in touch. After you move in, we want to ensure you settle in nicely and help you to maintain the quality of your new Canny home.
